Rescue Squad

Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, established in 1956, is a volunteer organization serving the citizens of Powhatan County with 24-hour emergency medical services. We have over 40 members and 6 ambulances providing basic and advanced life support from 3 stations in the county.

We work in conjunction with our local volunteer fire departments and are dispatched by the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communication Center for emergency calls. We also staff stand-by units for local sport activities and other public and private events where emergency medical services may be needed.

We are a member of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads and our providers continually train and learn the most current standards of emergency medical services under the Old Dominion Emergency Services Alliance, the Virginia Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services, and our Medical Director.
